Description
Decommissioned and stricken from the Navy on 1 October 1983. Subsequently laid up in the James River reserve fleet.
Sunk as a target during SINKEX on 14 July 1999 in the Sargasso Sea area of the North Atlantic Ocean southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and northeast of the Bahamas. Harpoon anti-ship missiles, laser-guided bombs and 5-inch naval gunfire were used to send the ship to the bottom.
